Description:

Overview & Learning Objectives

This course will help keep you abreast of the latest implant placement and restorative protocols in the Esthetic Zone. Four (4) proven surgical and prosthetic protocols will be presented and reviewed. According to Dr. Barksdale, “Understanding the morning lectures and participating in the afternoon hands-on simulation training will enable you to better diagnose and identify when immediate implants are indicated and the benefits they offer. You will better understand how to engineer prosthetic restorations that obtain maximum results, and understand specific procedures that facilitate both immediate and delayed implant placements to ensure success."

Immediate & Delayed Placement Protocols (The Morning Lecture)

After attending and listening to each of the morning lectures, participants should be better able to learn, understand, and remember:

four proven surgical protocols to treat implants in the esthetic zone
the benefits of Immediate Implants and why you should be placing Immediate Implants
when you should delay implant placement and not do Immediate Implants
how to match the best surgical protocol to your specific patient case to increase success
how to manage the “jump gap” and “tissue zone” and why it is critical for success
how to select implant size to achieve maximum results
established prosthetic design principles to support tissue and bone growth
how implant position and prosthetic design can reduce the need for soft tissue grafting
principles and materials for grafting the gap/tissue zone/bone zone to enhance success

Surgical & Prosthetic "Hands-On" Training (Afternoon Training)

The afternoon simulation training focuses on the following (5) "hands-on" exercises using one custom designed multi-purpose model to accomplish the following:

a Partial Extraction procedure (also known as P.E.T. or Socket Shield) on an anterior tooth
an immediate implant placement and learn how implant size and position can be critical for esthetic success
fabricate a custom screw-retained provisional using design principles that better enhance bone and soft tissue healing; as well as, use and understand the instruments and implant components to fabricate a screw-retained provisional
place bone graft in the gap, as well as, the bone and soft tissues
fully ratchet a complete Screw-Retained Provisional to place

Because of their participation in the afternoon "hands-on" training, participants should be much better able to apply, remember and learn:

the benefits of immediate implant placement and immediate prosthetic provisionalization
the four proven Surgical Protocols to treat extraction and immediate implant placement
how to match the best surgical protocol to their specific patients' needs to increase success
the established Prosthetic design principles to facilitate bone and soft tissue growth
how prosthetic design can reduce or eliminate soft tissue grafting
the principles and materials for grafting the gap/tissue zone/bone zone to enhance success

Presenter(s):

John M. Barksdale, DDS is a practicing General Dentist in Baton Rouge for over 40 years and a national lecturer on Dental Implants and Esthetics. Dr. Barksdale is Board Certified and a Diplomate of both the American Board of Oral Implantologists and the International Congress of Oral Implantology and is an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He began his dental implant journey while a senior at LSU School of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school in 1975, he continued his training in dental implants by completing a two-year practicing residency from The Misch International Implant Institute (1987-88) and subsequent training in Advanced Bone and Soft Tissue Management. In addition to serving as the Director of the LSU Dental Implant Continuum, he is a Fellow of the Misch International Implant Institute and an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Osseointegration.

This course will be held at LSU School of Dentistry at 1100 Florida Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana located in the Mid-City area of New Orleans near beautiful City Park and historic Bayou St. John. If you are staying at a downtown hotel in or near the French Quarter, the distance to the dental school is approximately five miles. If you are driving to the dental school, free parking is available in the patient and visitor parking lots located across from the dental school.

Please make your own airline and hotel reservations as soon as possible because New Orleans is busy with many events and conventions at this time of year. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located approximately 30-40 minutes by taxi from both downtown New Orleans and LSU School of Dentistry. For your return flight, please allow about 90 minutes for the trip to the airport and for airline check-in.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:

If a course is canceled, the Academy will refund the full tuition. If you cancel your registration, the Academy will refund the tuition you paid (minus an administrative cancellation fee).

Written cancellation requests can be submitted by mail, by fax at 504-941-8403, or email at CDE@lsuhsc.edu. If LSU Health New Orleans CDE receives notification of your cancellation after the specified deadline, this will result in forfeiture of your entire tuition.
